July 5, 2005 06:11 - Toy Recall and Safety Tips for Summer

During the month of June 2005, there are several toy recalls I want you to be aware about. First is the recall of Razor electric scooters and Fisher-Price PAC scooters. Both type of scooters were recalled because of the defect in the scooters themselves. However, there is another scooter-related recall which is not caused by the defect in the scooter itself. Instead it is caused by overheating of Powmax battery chargers which are sold together with certain scooters. Read more ...

The second recall involves a toy chest. Cameron toy chest manufactured by Pottery Barn Kids has been found to have a problem with the lid support which could cause the lid not to stay open, posing the risk of an impact injury to a child's head, fingers or hands. If you want to know more information on toy chest safety, read here.

If you own a tether, you also have to be aware of a recent recall on Spinning Water Teethers manufactured by Prestige Toy Corp . The plastic spinner in the center of the teether can break, causing small beads to fall out. This poses a choking hazard to young children. Another baby product on recall is the Bright Starts Jammin' Jumpersmade by Kids II Inc. The plastic clamp that attaches the jumper seat to a door frame can break, which can cause the unit to fall to the floor. This poses an injury hazard to young children.

If your child has a yo-yo water balls, a toy consisting of a liquid-filled ball and elastic cord, you may also want to be aware o f the safety of this toy. Although not yet recalled, this toy has been blamed for about 400 choking and strangulation injuries nationwide. In fact, the Governor of the State of Illinois has decided to ban this toy from the Illinois State. This state has been the first which does so. Ready to enjoy the summer ? Then don't forget to read the water safety tips. For those of you who likes fishing in the summer, please be aware that Shakespeare Fishing Tackle Division is recalling about 438,000 children's fishing kits because the paint on the rods of these fishing poles contains lead, which is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects. Finally, we would like to wish you a fun safe summer.
