Guide to Buying Baby Mirrors
-- Infant Mirrors are Educational Toys Too

Baby mirrors are wonderful toys to have. There is really no special age category for these infant toys.

You can put a mirror into your baby's crib from the day she's born. You will soon find out that your baby is fascinated by the mirror.

Why ?

Baby likes faces, and what better face than her own! While looking in the mirror, you can point out her body parts and talk about them. Watch her giggle as she watches you touching her body and sees the same thing happening in the mirror. Who is this mysterious baby behind the mirror, she may think.

Yes, baby mirrors are fun toys to have.

And not only that !!

Introducing your infant to body parts early through the use of mirror helps her develop a self-identity as your baby will be able to see that she is separate from you. This activity is also good to build up her vocabulary.

Many of the infant toy manufacturers make baby mirrors. Before making a purchase, there are several things to check:

  • Make sure that it is made of an unbreakable material and provides an accurate reflection. Not all mirror designed for baby provides an accurate reflection.
  • There are basically two types of mirror: the one which can be attached to the crib/play pen; and the free standing one. The free standing one is good for tummy time. Check on this feature before you buy one, and make sure you buy the one with the feature you want.

Here is one tip to save you some money. Try to find another baby toy which has a mirror attached to it, hence you don't have to buy a separate baby mirror. Nowadays it should be pretty easy to find other infant toys which have a mirror attached to it for instance: play gym, rattles and baby mobiles.

The other possibility is to find baby mirrors which have activity toys attached on them. Some baby mirrors have activity toys at the back of the mirror where your baby can play peek-a-boo, stare at different visual stimulation graphic, squeeze and push the toys or just explore the different textures the toy has.

We recommend ....

If you are looking for activity mirror, then we think that Amazing Baby Developmental Light-Up Musical Mirror fits the bill.

This mirror can be either attached to crib or can be left freestanding for tummy time or floor play. In addition, this mirror has some more activities to stimulate your baby's senses:

  • Multiple textures for tactile exploration.
  • Give out crinkle and squeak sound when squeezed and touched.
  • Play four musical tunes to stimulate your baby's hearing and to excite your baby. Large mirror and bright bold patterns for visual stimulation.
  • High-contrast and bright bold patterns for visual stimulation
