Types of Stacking Ring Toys And Where to Buy

1. Plastic stacking rings.

Plastic stacking rings are the simplest and cheapest infant stacking rings available in the market today. They are the best value for your bucks since these stacking ring toys are suitable for different educational activities , for instance size recognition, color recognition and so forth.

They consist of a cone and different colors of plastic rings. You can easily get these from your local store or online here .For a couple of dollars more you can get a fancier plastic stacking rings, the Little Super Star Classical Stacker , which will give out light and sound if your baby stacks the toy correctly.

2. Wooden stacking rings

If you don't like plastic, you can get wooden stacking rings. Like plastic stacking rings, they are suitable for different activities , for instance size recognition, color recognition and so forth, and they also consist of a cone and painted wooden rings of different colors. Therefore, they are basically similar to the plastic stacking rings, but wooden stacking rings are of course made from wood and a little bit more expensive than the basic plastic stacking rings. One caveat though. With wooden stacking rings, you can get the rings stuck together if you store the toy in a hot humid condition.

2. Soft stacking rings

In addition to those two kinds of baby stacking rings, there are also soft stacking rings which are made from fabrics. The soft stacking rings are obviously more attractive and cute. But they are also more pricey than both the plastic and wood stacking ring toys. These baby stacking rings are usually only sold at the toy shops or available through the internet or the mail-order toy store.

Unfortunately, most soft stacking rings are not made of plain fabrics. Therefore, color recognition activities may be difficult to do since there are more than one color per-ring. But you can use the those soft stacking rings for size recognition, hand eye coordination activities, tactile stimulation and so forth.

Having said that, I manage to find a rare soft stacking rings made out of solid color fabrics, which are made by Lamaze. Aside from being a good stacking ring toy, Lamaze stacking rings can giggle and sing with your child. A variation of these kinds of soft stacking rings are baby stacking rings which consist of several rings, each of which resembles body part so that if the rings are stacked correctly, they will form a certain animal or creature (see the example here). Although they are dead cute and is very appealing to get as a gift, this kind of soft stacking rings are not \as educational as the 'ole' plastic or wood stacking ring toys. Yes, these cute baby stacking rings are good for fine motoric (stacking) and problem solving activities but are not suitable for size recognition since children stack using shape instead of size recognition. In addition, color recognition activities can be limited since these stacking toys usually have limited colors. Therefore, for the price it commands, I don't think these animal stacking rings are worth buying.

Soft stacking ring recommendation (fancy stacking ring, ideal for gift)
