How to Choose Kid Jigsaw Puzzle
for School-Age Children and Preteens

Basically all school-age children can handle child jigsaw puzzles made from cardboard which is also known as cardboard jigsaw puzzles.

Cardboard puzzles are not suitable for preschoolers and toddlers since they are not sturdy enough. However, school-age children are more mature and more responsible so they will treat cardboard jigsaw puzzles properly.

As the age progresses you can offer kid jigsaw puzzle with increased complexity and smaller/more pieces.

What I mean by complexity here is: how difficult to match one piece with another. Usually it's more determined by the picture of the cardboard puzzles rather than the size or shape of the pieces.

For instance, I've encountered a cardboard jigsaw puzzle depicting baked beans. For me, this is a close-to-impossible jigsaw puzzle to complete since each piece look similar. It's possible .. but it's very hard. Compare this to other cardboard puzzles with clear pictures, like picture of a house with garden. Which one is easier to complete do you think ?

Therefore the only tip for choosing kid jigsaw puzzle for school-age children (preteens) is: to look at the complexity of the picture of the puzzle. Keep the picture simple for elementary school-age children (6-8), for instance: the picture should have no color gradation. Increase the complexity of the picture for older ones.

Playing puzzle is definitely a good way to spend times with family in the evening and is so enjoyable. Not to mention the fact that child jigsaw puzzles are so educational and enhance a lot of key developmental areas.
