Kid's Toy Storage Tips
for Organizing Big Toys

It is a fact that today's kids have an incredible amount of toy. Hence, finding a kid's toy storage system that works has been increasingly crucial to ensure that our home does not end up too messy.

Toys vary in sizes and each size produces a challenge in term of storage. With small toys, the key is to sort and store the toys in lots of little containers/bins/bags.But how about the big items ?

In this page you will find ideas on kid's toy storage system for organizing big toys including trucks, ride-on toys, baby activity center, sport equipment (ball, bat, etc), and big stuffed animals.

There are several ways to store these big items:

  • Display them on a shelf. If the toys look presentable enough why don't you and your child make them as decorative items in your child's room ? Of course if you and your child choose this route, make sure that toys are arranged reasonably neat on the shelf. Otherwise they can become an eye sore. Trucks, big toy cars, and big stuffed animals are the ones which are good to be stored this way.
  • Toy chests or any big box. Toy chests are definitely not suitable for storing small items, but this kid's toy storage system is ideal for organizing big toys. This kid's toy storage system is good for storing trucks, big toy cars, big stuffed animals and sport equipment including bats and balls.
  • Storing tricycle, bicycle, push and pull toys, and ride-on toys:
    • in the closet. This is ideal for indoor toys including push and pull toys and ride- on toys.
    • in your garage. Make a designated parking space in your garage for outdoor ride-on-toys including bicycle or tricycle using chalk or paint.
    • at your backyard. Get a big storage place and place those toys there. Don't just leave the toys at the back porch even though the porch is covered, since harsh weather will eventually make the toys deteriorate.
  • Toy basket (usually wicker baskets) -- this is great for big stuffed animal. In fact, if the basket looks good, arrange the stuffed animal properly in there and use this as a decorative item.
  • Storing big baby toys including baby activity centers and baby walkers. If your baby or toddler has these kind of toys, then store them in the closet. If these toys are used constantly, leave them in your child's room as it is. For long time storage, disassemble these toys if possible.

Basically, try to keep the amount of oversized toys low because they are pain to store. Therefore, when you buy a big toy, it is always a good idea to check whether these toys can be disassembled and assembled easily for kid's toy storage purpose. Cardboard building bricks, for example, are big. And once assembled, they cannot be dissasembled. Therefore, storing a lot of bricks like this will take up quite a lot of space. Play tunnel, in contrast, are usually easy to assemble and dissamble. Therefore, although they do require a lot of space to play with, storage-wise, this toy presents no problem.
