Tips for Toy Building Blocks and Lego Storage
Lego storage and storage system for toy building blocks are something which every parent should plan carefully since these toys are potential mess creator. They are easily scattered around the house, and before you know it, those pieces have already invaded your home.
But before you decide on what kind of Lego storage system you want to use, you may want to think how you want them to be organized.
One important question you must ask yourselves is this. - Do you or your child care whether each set is mixed ?
- Or is it fine to mix everything ?
Generally the construction toy sets for younger children such as Lego Duplo or Mega Blok are more universal. Hence I don't think it matters to mix several sets of Mega Blok or Duplo Block together . However, construction sets for older children are usually like a kit and hence cannot be mixed.
Storing one-size Lego or toy building blocks
If your child only owns one size Lego or toy building blocks, or if they are big in size, these are some ideas for building blocks and Lego storage for you to try: - Tote bags (bags with string). Hang them on pegs.
- Drop bag. This is similar to tote bags, but it is much easier to clean up the mess using a drop bag. Here is the instruction on how to make one:
- make a circle from fabrics with 44" or 60" in diameter (depending on the width of the fabric).
- Make a casing surrounding the perimeter of the fabric. Insert nylon string. The length of the rope should be approximately the same as the perimeter of the fabric. Tie the end of the rope together. .
- Tell your child to play ON that fabric when she is playing with blocks.
- When your child finishes playing, pull the string. The blocks will be automatically contained in the bag.
- Hang the bag on a peg.
- Bins with lids. Put them on a shelf.
- Buckets with lids. Hang them on pegs or put them on a shelf.
Storing mixed-size Lego or construction toys
If your child owns Lego or construction toys which have different sizes, there is a smart Lego storage system, called Box4BLOX, which keeps these sizes sorted and organized.
Basically, this Lego storage system consists of 4 trays which can be stacked on top of each others. Each tray has different size of grids at the bottom of it.
You can sort and store the blocks, by putting all of the trays on top of each other and then place the blocks in the top tray. The blocks are then automatically graded into a tray with similar sized blocks and they are ready to store.
It's easy isn't it ?
Moreover, we also found that because the interlocking block pieces can be easily found from their individual trays, there is no need to tip all the pieces all over the floor. This translates to less mess.
