Lego Storage Ideas

Storing and organizing Legos can be a problem in many household. Here you will find Lego storage system recommendation which hopefully will make yourself easier and prevent your children from having missing Lego pieces.

Storing mixed-size Lego or construction toys.

If your child owns Lego bricks or construction toys which have different sizes, and want to organize them depending on the size, you can choose either of these options:

1. Using Box4BLOX.

BOX4BLOX is the best Lego storage system I've ever known. In fact it's been mentioned as the "Best New Home Organizing Product of the Year" by National Association of Professional Organizers.

With Box4BLOX, your child just need to stack the trays and plop the bricks into the uppermost trays, shake it, and voila ... the blocks are automatically sorted into sizes and ready to store.

It's easy isn't it ?

Moreover, we also found that because the interlocking block pieces can be easily found from their individual trays, there is no need to tip all the pieces all over the floor. This translates to less mess.

Currently BOX4BLOX can only be purchased online here .

2. Using a Drawer System.

You may want to invest in a variety of plastic drawers to store your children's Lego or construction kit toys.

Below are several drawer systems which I think are appropriate for storing and organizing Lego, especially smaller Lego pieces.

Storing one-size Lego

If your child only owns one-size Lego or if your children don't care that different sizes are mixed, you can try some of these lego storage system:

  • Tote bags (bags with string). Hang them on pegs.

  • Drop bag. This is similar to tote bags, but it is much easier to clean up the mess using a drop bag. Here is the instruction on how to make one:
    • make a circle from fabrics with 44" or 60" in diameter (depending on the width of the fabric).
    • Make a casing surrounding the perimeter of the fabric. Insert nylon string. The length of the rope should be approximately the same as the perimeter of the fabric. Tie the end of the rope together. .
    • Tell your child to play ON that fabric when she is playing with the Lego blocks.
    • When your child finishes playing, pull the string. The blocks will be automatically contained in the bag.
    • Hang the bag on a peg.
  • Bins with lids. Put them on a shelf.
  • Buckets with lids. Hang them on pegs or put them on a shelf.
