Stacking Blocks Buying Guide
Stacking blocks are stacking toys which consist of blocks of different sizes that can be either stacked or nested. Hence, basically, these nesting blocks have similar functions as nesting cups. However, they usually have bigger sizes and come in a set of 10 (so that it's possible to form a high tower), and therefore are mostly suitable for toddlers and preschoolers, but not for babies. Toddler and preschoolers will have fun stacking these stacking toys to form a high tower and then knock them down.
Since these stacking blocks are of different sizes, these blocks can also be used in size recognition activities similar to those used with nesting cups . However, unlike nesting cups, we find that each of these soft blocks usually does not have one solid color. Therefore they cannot be used for color recognition activities like the one used with nesting cups .
On a positive note, these blocks often have pretty pictures, so you can always talk about those pictures and use them to enhance your child's language development.
Shopping for stacking blocks
When shopping for these stacking blocks, look for these properties: - there should be more than 5 blocks so that a child can work with reasonable amount of blocks to stack. .
- have different colors or pictures to talk about.
Currently, there are 2 kinds of stacking blocks: the wooden ones and the cardboard ones. The cardboard ones have advantages in that they are lighter. But the wooden stacking blocks are of course studier.
If you want the wooden stacking blocks, you can get the one made by Melissa and Doug.
Our favorite is cardboard stacking blocks made by eeBoo. This toy manufacturer makes some of the best stacking block around.
