Guide on Buying Stacking Cups or Nesting Cups

Stacking cups or nesting cups are inexpensive toys. Yet, they are educational and can be played at different levels. Therefore, these are good toys to have.

These toy cups are sold in any toy store and they cost below 10 dollars per set. Many toy manufacturers make this kind of toys. However, in order to maximize the use of these stacking toys we recommend you to follow the following guidelines when buying these toys.

When shopping for stacking cups, look at these features:

  • The number of cups. Since you want to use these toys for stacking activities and to introduce size recognition, buy the ones which have more than 5 cups.
  • Find the ones which have one solid color per-cup or the ones which will make a good model for color recognition activities.
  • Pictures at the bottom of the cups (optional).

The basic nesting cups consist of 6-9 cups with different colors. The brand-name ones are of course prettier, but they are slightly more expensive and sometimes they only have a maximum of 5 visually attractive cups. Since the purpose of having these cups are for stacking/nesting, then it is better to have a basic set which has more than five cups than to have the prettier one which only has five cups or less.

If you want pretty cups, then I recommend Rainbow Stacker from Small World Toys. The Rainbow Stacker cups from Small World Toys are pretty (I mean, beyond basic) , yet there are 7 cups per set which is a good amount for stacking/nesting activities. You can do all the suggested activities above using these cups.

If you want the wooden or cardboard kind, you can get the stacking blocks which are square blocks of different sizes that can be either stacked or nested.
