Store Toys Using Toy Shelf

Toy shelf is one of the system you can use for storing toys.

This system is actually better than the toy chest system since virtually 'no toys' are lost from the sight. It also offers an easy access to your child's toys. You or your child doesn't have to dig in to reach a particular toy because everything is on display and can be accessed easily.

The only drawback of using a toy shelf for organizing your child' s toys is that unless you put the shelves in a closet, the toys have to be kept reasonably neat because everything is on display.

Here are several things to consider when choosing a toy storage shelf:

• If you want your children to be able to reach the toys and then put them back in themselves, then make sure that the toy shelves are low enough for them to do so. However, if you don't want your children to be able to reach several items without your consent, then the top shelf should be high enough to store such items.
• Make sure that the toy storage shelf is sturdy and won't tip over just in case your little one decides to climb on it. A built-in shelf or shelves which can be attached to the wall are the best since they won't tip over.

Which toys can be stored using a toy storage shelf ?

Plenty. Children books and big toys like stuffed toys or stuffed animal and trucks/big cars can be displayed on a child toy shelf.

In addition, if you put assorted size of small toy bins or containers on a shelf, they can always be used for storing small items including small cars, bean bag animals, 'Little People' kind of toy from a theme-play set and more. A wicker basket can also be be added if there is enough space for it. This kind of baskets can be used to store medium-sized toys including toddler-size balls and stuffed animal. Some stores do carry special shelves designated for storing toys. They usually come with assorted size of toy bins for storing smaller items or wicker baskets for storing slightly larger items.

There are several types of shelves which can be used as a toy shelf. Here are your options:

First, you can get either a book case, a wicker shelf, cubbies or a metal shelf. The advantage of using such shelf is that when your child grows up, you can easily use these shelves in other rooms without looking too childish. The disadvantage is that they're usually too tall for small children. So you have to make sure to tell your child to never climb on a shelf and to ensure that the shelf is secured to the wall.

When you buy, make sure it's sturdy enough and deep enough to store toys. It should also have three sides of the shelf (i.e. back, left and right sides) covered. That way, your child's toys won't fall out. Ratan or wicker shelves like this usually have those three sides covered and so do book cases.

Second, you can get a dedicated toy shelf. Many local stores and online vendors sell children bookcases with children's theme. You can easily turn these bookcases into a toy shelf as long as the shelf is big enough (when shopping, look at the shelf depth -- you want the shelf's depth to be around 11 inches. Some book cases are not deep enough and are only good for storing chapter books). This kid's doll house style toy book shelf organizer or this one is big enough to contain medium-sized toys and books. If you have bins, you can fit in a lot of small toys there. It's ideal for a girl's room and has a nice neutral color.

Third, you can buy toy shelf with bins. This is also known as toy bin organizer and can be bought both locally and online. We find it's harder to find such toy bin organizer locally, especially if you want more variety.
